At the WCPA, our core mission is to educate public policymakers on workers' compensation pharmacy-related issues

The Workers' Compensation Pharmacy Alliance

The Workers’ Compensation Pharmacy Alliance (WCPA) is dedicated to working with State Legislatures, State Regulators and Industry Groups to help shape thoughtful public policy initiatives that will facilitate an open and cost-effective workers’ compensation pharmacy marketplace. Such a marketplace would:
  • Preserve access to quality pharmacy care for injured workers.
  • Effectively manage prescription drug costs for insurance carriers and other payers.
  • Preserve the ability for pharmacists to fill workers’ compensation prescriptions.
  • Minimize administrative and claims processing costs for insurance carriers and pharmacy providers.
The WCPA members companies have a combined experience of over 100 years in the workers’ compensation pharmacy arena. Together they work in all 50 states and currently handle over 80% of the workers’ compensation prescription claims in the United States. Member companies fulfill an extremely valuable role in the marketplace by allowing pharmacy providers and payers to outsource a very labor intensive and cumbersome claims process, giving pharmacists more time to interact with their clients, assess care and dispense needed medications. Access to care and the quality of care is preserved, resulting in better outcomes for the injured workers, the payers and employers.

WCPA Responds to Inaccurate Blogs, April 19, 2007

With the abundance of internet blog sites it has become increasingly challenging for individuals and businesses to sort through misinformation, personal opinions, and false accusations to get to factual information on nearly any subject.  In some cases such misinformation is the result of incomplete research.  In other cases, however, it is a more nefarious attempt by competitors to impugn the integrity or motives of another company or group to further their own agenda or positioning in the marketplace.

HERE ARE THE FACTS:  The WCPA works with states to help them implement a statutory and regulatory mechanism that will reduce costs in the workers’ compensation pharmacy system, while helping to ensure that injured workers will still have access to quality pharmacy care.  The WCPA strives to protect access through respectable lobbying practices consistent with state and federal laws.  However, our lobbying budget for the entire country is more modest than amounts that have been incorrectly published for an individual state.

We invite anyone who is interested in the facts about the WCPA to contact us.  We would be excited to share our mission and goals with you.  We’re proud to advocate for responsible reform of workers compensation pharmacy issues by educating public policymakers.
